THX Simpsons — Les Tontons, Phobia, Scarface and Shrek
This is the most varied page in the SD THX library in terms of audio format. Three of the five files use DD 2.0 stereo rather than 5.1 surround — Shrek, THX Simpsons and Horton on the previous page are the only stereo-only files in the entire SD section. That makes this page unusual and specifically useful for one diagnostic purpose: verifying stereo downmix behavior on a surround system.
Shrek leads at 24,000 downloads — 36 seconds, 8.96MB, DD 2.0. THX Simpsons follows at 23,700 downloads — 46 seconds and 22.9MB, also DD 2.0. Both feature the Tex CGI rabbit character that became the main visual identity of THX through this era. The Simpsons Tex variant crosses the THX brand with The Simpsons animation style, which partly explains the download interest — it’s one of the more recognizable character crossovers in the library.
Phobia is the most technically substantial file on this page — a full minute at 50.8MB in DD EX 5.1. At 18,500 downloads it sits below the character-based files, which reflects general download patterns across the library: shorter, lighter files with recognizable characters consistently outperform longer technical demos. For actual surround calibration purposes however, Phobia is the only file here that exercises the full EX channel layout over a meaningful duration.
Les Tontons Flingueurs runs 31 seconds at 16MB in standard DD 5.1. At 18,400 downloads it’s almost identical to Phobia in popularity. Scarface trails at 14,800 downloads and is the shortest file in the entire SD library at just 6 seconds and 1.33MB — essentially a quick logo sting with a Deep Note hit rather than a proper demo trailer.
